Preparation to Make Pizza Dough

Making your pizza dough is easier than you may think. In just an hour you can be eating completely homemade pizza dough. Before you begin, ensure you have all of the ingredients you’ll need.

Pizza Dough Ingredients

2 1/3 cups of all-purpose flour

2 1/4 teaspoons of instant or active dry yeast

1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar

3/4 teaspoons of salt

1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder

2 tablespoons of olive oil

3/4 cup of warm water

Now it’s time to combine these ingredients!

Pizza Dough Recipe:

Start by combining one cup of all-purpose flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and garlic powder in a large bowl.

Next, you’re going to add the olive oil and warm water into the bowl and stir until everything is combined. Make sure your warm water isn’t too hot. This can kill the yeast and keep the dough from rising.

Once all of your ingredients have been thoroughly stirred, it’s time to gradually add the rest of the flour into the mixture. Continue to stir the contents until the dough starts to become sticky and has some elasticity to it.

Then, add a drizzle of olive oil to a separate bowl. Form the dough into a ball and then transfer it over to the olive oil bowl. If the dough is sticking to your hands, put some flour on your hands.

Roll the ball around in the bowl, covering it in olive oil before covering the bowl with plastic wrap.

Let the dough sit for 30 minutes in a warm part of the kitchen. This will help the dough to rise and expand. The dough should double in size during this time.

Now, it’s time to prepare for baking.

Baking Your Homemade Pizza

Now that your dough has risen, it’s time to start baking! Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Lightly flour a hard, clean surface like a cutting board or a countertop.

Remove the plastic wrap and transfer the pizza dough to the floured surface. Start kneading the dough a couple of times to smooth it out. This should only be a couple of times—don’t overwork the dough.

For this next part, you can either use a rolling pin or your hands. Begin working the dough into about a 12-inch circle.

Now you can move the dough to a pizza pan. Be sure it’s lined with parchment paper or has been sprayed with a non-stick ingredient like butter.

Begin to fold in the edges of the dough to make the crust. Don’t fold them in too much—about an inch or two will suffice. Then, use a pastry brush to brush some olive oil across the dough. This includes brushing the newly-formed crust.

Then, poke holes in the crush all around the dough. This will prevent the dough from bubbling in the oven.

Lastly, before baking, add your desired pizza sauce, and favorite pizza toppings before putting the pizza in the oven. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted, the toppings are cooked, and the pizza crust is a golden brown color.

Let the pizza cool for a minute before slicing and serving. Enjoy with family and friends or all by yourself (we won’t tell)!

What Makes Good-Quality Pizza?

When you have a really good slice of pizza, you know it. You can taste quality ingredients and a pizza made with love.  And there’s always an inevitable smile that comes from eating a really good pizza.

But what makes good-quality pizza, and how can you incorporate it at home?

Quality ingredients are a big part of what makes good pizza. Using all-purpose flour is an important ingredient when creating the pizza crust. This makes it soft on the inside but crispy on the outside.

Another quality ingredient to keep in mind when making your pizza dough is the sauce. Making your sauce from scratch with fresh tomatoes can create a beautifully rich and smooth pizza sauce. Cook the tomatoes low and slow and season the sauce to taste.

Never skimp on the cheese. Not enough cheese may make your pizza taste like too much tomato sauce. Without cheese, your pizza just won’t be the same!
