Outdoor tiles are an important part of any outdoor space. Whether you’re building a new patio or just want to spruce up your existing one, tiles can be the perfect solution. However, it’s important to know the best ones for certain applications.

This article will go over some common types of tiles as well as their advantages and disadvantages when used outside. Note that there are many different types of tiles online Australia has to offer. Let’s see which ones work well outdoors.

Ceramic Tile

One of the most common types of tiles used for outdoor spaces, ceramic tile is easy to clean, durable against water damage and has a wide variety of patterns or designs available. However, ceramic tile can be cold on your feet in colder climates.

This type of tile also doesn’t do that well if there are large areas without any shade. It will heat up quickly under direct sunlight! Ceramic tiles work best when you have something beneath them (like pavers) so they don’t get too hot underneath.

Natural Stone

Stone tiles are tough and durable, so they can handle a lot of wear without breaking. They’re also available in many different styles and colours to match your decor or personal style.

Because stone is naturally porous, it’s important that the area where you use them gets treated with an impregnating sealer regularly to prevent water damage from seeping into the stones cracks over time.

Porcelain Tile

Porcelain tile has been growing in popularity recently because this tile is very similar to ceramic tile but much more resistant against cracking or chipping when exposed to sunlight, heat, cold weather, etc. The biggest advantage to porcelain tile is that it’s almost completely resistant against water damage.

Unlike stone tiles, there are no crevices for liquids to get trapped in and rot out the base of your outdoor space. Porcelain flooring tends to be a little harder on the feet than ceramic or stone, too. This makes them perfect for poolside applications where you don’t want people standing around for long periods of time.

Terrazzo Tile

Terrazzo tiles are typically formed from cement, sand and small rocks or gravel mixed together with water, then pressed into the desired shape. Once they’ve been shaped, you can apply your tile pattern or design to it using an adhesive.

These tiles are very sturdy and durable because they have cold weather resistance built-in. This makes them perfect for colder climates where other types of tiles might crack in winter time when frozen by ice and snow.

Although terrazzo floors aren’t as common as ceramic or stone ones, there is still a large variety available depending on what look you want to achieve in your outdoor space.

Pavers

Pavers can be made of many different materials, but most people think of them as stones/concrete blocks that have been fitted together to form a solid surface. They come in all shapes and sizes, so you can find one suited perfectly to your space, whether it’s big or small.

Pavers are commonly used around pools because they offer some water resistance (although not nearly as much as terrazzo tiles), don’t get too hot under the sun and provide good traction when wet.
