If you have been invited to a friend’s house for a party, and it is going to be a nice day, how about you switch things up and ride your bike to the shindig? Not only do you avoid traffic, but it is also good for the environment, and you burn calories so you can enjoy the goodies offered at the party. You can also grab attention from the guests by sporting a cool-looking journey bike and dressing in sporty and cool attire. To be as safe as possible, wear a helmet and understand the rules of the road.

Knowing the Rules of the Road

Whether you have a road bike or a comfortable aroundtheblock cruiser, you want to get to the party in one piece. Ideally, it would be great if there was a nice, peaceful bike path that took you straight to your friend’s house, but more than likely you are going to need to go on roads for at least part of the journey.

One of the most important things to understand is that bikers must follow the same traffic rules as other vehicles. This means you must obey all stop signs and traffic lights. You should always signal before turning or stopping, and you should do this about 100 feet before the move. To turn left, extend your left arm straight out to the side. For right turns, extend your right arm to the side or extend your left arm and bend the arm up at a 90-degree angle. To signal a stop or slow down, extend your left arm out and bend it down at a 90-degree angle.

You should always ride in a straight line, and you should ride in the rightmost lane, unless there is a specified bike lane, and avoid riding on sidewalks. Because cyclists are harder to see, you should always be on the defense. Keep an eye out for other cars, especially those exiting a driveway or parking lot, and avoid hazards such as potholes and debris.

Comfortable Biking Attire

Although you may impress your friends with a cool bike, this is not the time to show off a new pair of heels or a Gucci suit. However, you are also not going on an athletic 45-mile ride, so you do not need to don tight spandex shorts and a jersey. If it is a nice day, comfortable shorts and a polo top are smart choices.

If it is cooler, casual pants that have some stretch work well. Layers on the top are smart so that you can take the top layer off if you are warm while riding, but you have that extra top to keep you warm at the party. Your outfit should have some bright colors to it so that you are more visible to drivers. No outfit is complete without a helmet, so choose one that fits well.

Now that you know the basics, you are ready for your ride. If you do not want to break a sweat, check out one of the many ebikes for women that make any journey a breeze.
